Garden Etiquette

Welcome! We ask that you treat Bloedel Reserve as you would an art museum or library. Using museum etiquette will allow other guests and wildlife to enjoy their time at Bloedel as much as we hope you will.


  • Stay on trails and lawns (walking on grass is allowed)
  • Stay out of Sand & Stone (“Zen”) Garden
  • Do not walk on moss
  • Do not walk on flower beds and borders
  • Cell Phones: Keep use to a minimum and voices quiet
  • Shoes and shirts required

Items not permitted include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Pets
  • Smoking, vaping, e-cigarettes
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Illegal substances
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Cremated remains
  • Miscellaneous other items: e.g. musical instruments, camping equipment, toys

Activities not permitted include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Professional or portrait photography (see complete photo policy)
  • Food or picnicking (see complete food policy)
  • Tree climbing
  • Flower and berry picking
  • Removal of rocks, sticks, flowers, plants
  • Feeding of animals
  • Running or jogging (for exercise)
  • Recreational sports: catch, football, frisbee, lawn games, etc
  • Winter sports: e.g. snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding, ice skating, etc
  • Wheeled activities: e.g. bicycles, tricycles, Segways, skateboards, scooters, roller skates, in-line skates, Heelys, wagons. (Strollers and wheelchairs allowed)
  • Admittance after hours – please respect open hours and be out by closing time

For children:

  • Please stay with your grown up
  • Walking feet and respectful voices are expected in all areas of the garden
