Waterfall – Birch Garden and Rhododendron Glen

At the north side of the Visitor Center, the Waterfall Overlook affords a stunning view of enormous rhododendrons and spring-flowering shrubs. A trail to the right leads back into the deep woods of the Glen and the Birch Garden.

In the Birch Garden, the white trunks of Himalayan birches in winter, pink and white rhododendron blossoms in springtime, sky blue hydrangeas flowers in summer, and the vivid yellow and crimson leaves of birches and Japanese maples in autumn, make this garden room a never-ending color show.

Dozens of rhododendron species thrive in the Glen under the protection of second-growth forest. Thousands of perennials, bulbs and wildflowers bloom among the rhododendrons, including one of the largest cyclamen plantings in the world.
