Photography Workshop with Charles Needle:
“Creating Evocative Flower & Garden Photos”
Making great pictures of flowers and gardens requires skill and patience. Learn how to craft a truly great garden photograph and capture the essence or “spirit” of your garden using a digital camera. Charles will discuss the concept of “intimate landscape” and teach tips for proper exposure, composition and lighting.
You’ll also have the opportunity to explore several methods of making painterly, non-literal images in-camera: camera movement, multiple-exposure montaging, Lensbaby, long exposures, and shooting reflections.
This fun and informative class includes lecture, field demonstrations, and personalized hands-on instruction in the beautiful Bloedel Reserve, an internationally renowned 150-acre nature preserve and garden located on Bainbridge Island, WA.
Materials: Bring your camera & instruction manual, lenses & tripod (if you have them), memory cards, spare batteries and knee-pads. All skill levels are welcome.
Class Fee: Members – $160; Non-members – $180. Includes lunch and exclusive access to the Reserve on a day that is closed to the public. Limited to 16 participants. No refunds after May 24, 2013.

Nature Photography for Kids with David Perry (Ages 8-12)
We’re not sure if it’s their shorter stature or their since of wonder, but kids have the most amazing eye for photography. Drop the kids off at the Reserve for an artful and action-packed morning in nature with noted Northwest garden photographer David Perry. They’ll learn some basic photography skills like composition and have hours of fun exploring the grounds from behind the lens.
Materials: Bring your SLR, point-and-shoot, or fully-charged smart phone, memory cards, and spare batteries.
Class Fee: Members – $25; Non-members – $30. Limited to 20 participants. No refunds after June 26, 2013.

iPhoneography for Adults with David Perry
The cameras within iPhones and iPads these days are miniature wonders, nearly always within our reach and capable of making magical photographs which can be enhanced and immediately shared through email, tweets and text messages, or posted to one’s social networking pages. Spend an afternoon with photographer David Perry as he demonstrates the amazing potential these smart phone cameras offer and helps you master their wonders while sidestepping some of their inherent pitfalls.
Materials: Bring your fully-charged iPhone, iPad or other smart phone, be prepared to download a couple of apps.
